Research Interests
My past research efforts have focused on exploring animal welfare issues in captive primate populations, especially as they relate to rhesus macaque infant development in biomedical research facilities. I am currently interested in taking my knowledge about captive primates into the field and studying developmental processes in free-ranging populations. I hope that this will allow me to answer basic questions about the interactions between maternal style and infant behavioral development. In addition, I am interested in approaching captive welfare issues from a field perspective by providing data on normal behavioral patterns. I hope that these data will be helpful as a baseline for assessing behavioral abnormalities in captivity and informing management decisions aimed at improving welfare.
