Profile Introduction

Cellular dehydration and freezing

Degrees

1970 PhD Biology University of California, Riverside
1965 BS Biology and Chemistry Wake Forest College

Research Interests

Cellular dehydration and freezing. Intracellular water's role in maintenance of macromolecular structure and membrane integrity. Current work is on stabilization of mammalian cells during freeze-drying. The first such cells, human platelets, have been successfully freeze-dried and clinical testing is in progress.
